Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Install batteries and mount securely.

  1. Install batteries: Open battery compartment, insert 2 AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH).
  2. Mounting: Use optional mounting bracket for fixed installation on boat or vehicle.
  3. External antenna: Connect optional GA 29 or similar antenna to external port if needed.
  4. Power on: Press and hold POWER key to turn unit on.

WARNING! Ensure unit is securely mounted to prevent movement during use. Use appropriate marine-grade mounts for boat installation.

First-Time Setup

Power on unit; follow initial setup prompts.

  1. Acquire satellite signal: Go outdoors with clear view of sky; unit will automatically search.
  2. Set language: In Main Menu > Setup > System, select language (default ENGLISH).
  3. Set units: In Main Menu > Setup > Units, select nautical, statute, or metric.
  4. Calibrate compass (if applicable): Follow on-screen instructions.
  5. Load maps: Connect to PC with serial cable, use MapSource software to transfer maps to internal memory.

CAUTION! Initial satellite acquisition may take several minutes. Ensure you are in an open area.

Controls and Settings

Access functions via front panel keys and on-screen menus. Front Panel: POWER, PAGE, ROCKER key (up/down/left/right/ENTER), MOB, GOTO, MARK, MENU.

Key Functions: PAGE cycles through display pages (Map, Compass, Highway, etc.). ROCKER key navigates menus and maps. MOB marks Man Overboard position. GOTO initiates navigation to a waypoint. MARK creates a waypoint at current location. MENU accesses context-sensitive options.

Settings: Main Menu > Setup for System (language, contrast), Units, Time, Display, Interface, Tones, Navigation, Marine (tide data). Map Setup for detail, orientation, data fields.

Connecting Devices

PC Connection: Use PC interface cable (serial) to connect to computer for data transfer and map loading. External Antenna: Connect to external antenna port for improved signal below deck.

  1. Turn off GPS unit before connecting cables.
  2. Connect serial cable to PC's COM port and unit's data port.
  3. Use MapSource software to transfer waypoints, routes, tracks, and map data.
  4. For external antenna, screw connector into external antenna port securely.

Tip: Ensure MapSource software is installed and updated on your PC before connecting.

Navigating with Maps

Supports Garmin MapSource detailed maps and BlueChart marine charts.

  1. View Map Page: Press PAGE until Map page is displayed.
  2. Zoom: Use ROCKER key up/down to zoom map in/out.
  3. Pan: Use ROCKER key left/right to pan map view.
  4. Navigate to Waypoint: Press GOTO, select waypoint from list, press ENTER.
  5. Follow Route: Main Menu > Routes, select route, select "Navigate."
  6. Create Waypoint: Press MARK, edit details if needed, press ENTER.
  7. Track Log: Tracks are automatically recorded; view via Main Menu > Tracks.

WARNING! Always have paper charts as backup. GPS is an aid to navigation, not a replacement for traditional methods.

Marine Features

Tide Tables: View tide data for U.S. coastal stations via Main Menu > Marine > Tides. Sun and Moon: View sunrise/sunset and moon phase via Main Menu > Marine > Sun & Moon. MOB Function: Press and hold MOB key to instantly mark and navigate back to a Man Overboard position.

Care & Cleaning

Use fresh water and mild soap to clean exterior after saltwater use. Rinse thoroughly. Wipe screen with soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives.

CAUTION! Do not submerge unit deeper than 1 meter for more than 30 minutes, despite IPX7 rating. Ensure battery compartment seal is clean and intact.
