Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Install batteries and prepare for first use.

  1. Install batteries: Open battery compartment, insert four AA batteries observing polarity.
  2. External antenna (optional): Connect MCX-type antenna to external antenna port.
  3. Power on: Press and hold POWER button until unit beeps and display activates.
  4. Initial satellite acquisition: Place unit outdoors with clear view of sky for 5-15 minutes.

First-Time Setup

  3. Create route: Main Menu > Routes > New, add waypoints in sequence.
  4. Follow route: Select route, choose "Navigate".
  5. Track log: Tracks are automatically recorded; view in Track Manager.
  6. MOB function: Press and hold MOB button to mark man overboard position and begin navigation back.

WARNING! GPS accuracy can be affected by environmental factors; always verify position with other means.

Map & Data Management

Upload maps via PC, manage waypoints, routes, and tracks.

MapSource Software: Use Garmin MapSource to upload detailed maps to internal memory. Waypoint Management: Edit, delete, or transfer waypoints via PC interface. Data Transfer: Use serial interface to exchange waypoints, routes, tracks with PC or other GPS units.
