Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Install batteries and power on the device.

  1. Install Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back, insert two AA batteries (alkaline, NiMH, or lithium) observing polarity.
  2. Charge (Optional): Connect the device to a computer or approved power adapter using the provided USB cable to charge NiMH batteries.
  3. Initial Satellite Acquisition: Power on the device outdoors with a clear view of the sky. This may take several minutes.
  4. Secure Wrist Strap: Attach the included wrist strap to the loop on the device for safe handling.

WARNING! Use only approved batteries and power sources. Do not immerse the device while ports are open.

First-Time Use

Power on the device and follow the on-screen prompts to configure initial settings.

  1. Language & Units: Select your preferred language, measurement units (metric/imperial), and time format.
  2. Calibrate Compass: When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the electronic compass. Hold the device level and rotate it slowly.

CAUTION! For accurate compass readings, keep the device away from magnetic sources (metal, electronics, power lines).

Controls and Navigation

Access menus and functions using the physical buttons and the Rocker Pad.

Front Panel: POWER (hold to turn on/off), QUIT/MARK, MENU, ZOOM IN/OUT, Rocker Pad (up/down/left/right/ENTER).

Side Buttons: PAGE (cycles through main pages: Map, Compass, Trip Computer, etc.).

Navigation Basics: Use the Map page to see your location. Use MARK to save your current position as a waypoint. Use FIND to search for points of interest, waypoints, or cities. Use the Rocker Pad to move the cursor and ENTER to select.

Settings: Press MENU twice to access the main menu for system, display, routing, and sensor settings.

Connecting to Devices

Connect to sensors, computers, and smartphones for enhanced functionality.

  1. Connect to Computer: Use the USB cable to connect to a computer for file transfer (maps, waypoints) and software updates via Garmin Express.

Using Maps & Waypoints

Navigate using preloaded maps, add custom maps, and manage waypoints.

  1. View the Map: Press PAGE to cycle to the Map page. Use ZOOM IN/OUT to change detail level.
  2. Create a Waypoint: Press and hold MARK to save your current location. Edit the name, symbol, and coordinates as needed.
  3. Navigate to a Waypoint: Press FIND, select Waypoints, choose your target, and select "Go".
  4. Load Custom Maps: Transfer compatible .img map files to the device's internal memory or microSD™ card using a computer.
  5. Record a Track: The device automatically records your path. Access saved tracks via Track Manager.
  6. Create a Route: In the main menu, select Routes > Create Route. Add points from the map or your waypoint list.

WARNING! Always verify your route and have a backup navigation method. GPS signals can be obstructed.

Area Calculation: Measure the area of a field or plot by walking the perimeter. Access via Main Menu > Area Calculation.

Smartphone Notifications: When paired, view call, text, and app notifications on the device screen.

Care & Maintenance
