Installation & Initial Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Includes GPSMAP 62s unit, USB cable, wrist strap, documentation.

  1. Charge the device: Connect the USB cable to the unit and a computer or approved AC adapter.
  2. Install batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back, insert two AA batteries (NiMH or lithium recommended).
  3. Power on: Press and hold the POWER key until the device starts.
  4. Acquire satellites: Go outdoors with a clear view of the sky for initial satellite acquisition.

WARNING! Use only approved power sources. Do not expose to extreme temperatures during initial setup.

First-Time Use

Upon first power-on, follow the on-screen prompts.

Navigating with GPSMAP 62s

Supports waypoint navigation, track following, and route creation.

  3. Follow a track: Press FIND, select Tracks, choose a saved track, select Navigate.

  1. Load geocaches: Connect to computer, copy GPX files to the \Garmin\GPX folder on the device.
  2. Find a geocache: Press FIND, select Geocaches, choose a cache, select Go.
  3. Log your visit: After finding the cache, select Log Attempt, choose Found It/DNF/etc., add notes.
  4. Field notes: Logs are saved as text files for later upload to geocaching websites.

Care & Maintenance

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals. Ensure battery compartment seal is clean and intact for waterproofing.

CAUTION! Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
