Installation & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure all parts are present.

  1. Install batteries: Open battery compartment on back, insert two AA batteries (NiMH or lithium recommended).
  2. Charge via USB (optional): Connect to computer USB port or optional power adapter for charging NiMH batteries.
  3. Insert microSD card (optional): For additional maps, insert card into slot under battery cover.
  4. Power on: Press and hold POWER key.

WARNING! Use only recommended batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types.

First-Time Use

Power on the device; follow on-screen prompts.

  1. Acquire satellites: Go outdoors with clear view of sky. Device will automatically search for satellites.
  2. Set language: From Main Menu > Setup > System > Language, select your preferred language.
  3. Calibrate compass: When prompted, follow on-screen instructions to calibrate the electronic compass.
  4. Set time and format: In Setup > Time, choose time format, time zone, and daylight saving settings.

CAUTION! For accurate compass calibration, avoid magnetic interference (metal objects, power lines).

Controls and Navigation

Access menus via PAGE/QUIT and ENTER keys. Front Panel: POWER, ROCKER (up/down/left/right), ENTER/MARK, PAGE/QUIT.

Key Functions: POWER turns device on/off; ROCKER navigates menus and maps; ENTER selects items or marks waypoints; PAGE cycles through main pages (Map, Compass, Altimeter, etc.); QUIT exits menus.

Main Pages: Map (displays your location and maps), Compass (shows heading and bearing), Altimeter (shows elevation profile), Main Menu (access to Waypoints, Tracks, Setup, etc.). Setup: System (language, display, units), Tracks (track log settings), Routing (navigation preferences).

Connecting to a Computer

Use included USB cable to connect to computer for data transfer and software updates.

  1. Turn on GPSMAP 62 csx.
  2. Connect USB cable to device and computer USB port.
  3. Device appears as removable drive. Use Garmin BaseCamp™ software (free download) to manage waypoints, tracks, and maps.
  4. Safely eject device from computer before disconnecting cable.

Tip: Ensure you have the latest Garmin WebUpdater software installed to update device firmware.

Using Maps & Waypoints

Supports Garmin mapping products (e.g., TOPO, City Navigator) via microSD card.

  1. View map: From Main Menu, select Map page. Use ROCKER to pan, ZOOM IN/OUT (if configured) to change scale.
  2. Create waypoint: Press and hold ENTER/MARK at desired location. Edit name/symbol as needed and select OK.
  3. Navigate to waypoint: From Main Menu > Waypoints, select a waypoint, then select "Go".
  4. Manage tracks: Setup > Tracks to configure recording interval, clear track log, or save current track.
  5. Load maps: Install maps to microSD card using Garmin BaseCamp, then insert card into device.

WARNING! Do not remove microSD card while device is on. Power off first.

Advanced Features

Paperless Geocaching: Download .gpx files from geocaching websites to the \Garmin\GPX folder on the device or microSD card. Geocaches appear under Main Menu > Geocaches. Sensor Features: Calibrate altimeter and compass periodically for accuracy (Setup > Sensors).

Care & Maintenance

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives. Store in a cool, dry place.

CAUTION! Ensure battery compartment is dry and sealed before use near water. Replace O-ring if damaged.
