Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Install batteries and optional memory card.

  1. Install batteries: Open battery compartment on back, insert two AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH recommended).
  2. Install microSD card (optional): Insert card into slot under the battery cover.
  3. Attach wrist strap (optional): Thread through loop on top of unit.
  4. Power on: Press and hold POWER button.

WARNING! Use only recommended batteries. Ensure battery compartment is securely closed, especially before exposure to moisture.

First-Time Setup

Power on the unit; follow on-screen prompts for initial configuration.

  1. Acquire satellite signals: Go outdoors with a clear view of the sky. The unit will automatically begin searching for satellites.
  2. Set language: In the Main Menu > Setup > System, select your preferred language (default is ENGLISH).
  3. Set units: In Setup > Units, choose between Metric, Statute, or Nautical units.
  4. Calibrate compass (if using electronic compass model): Follow on-screen instructions.
  5. Load maps (optional): Use MapSource software on your computer to transfer detailed maps to the microSD card.

Connecting Devices

USB: For computer connection and data transfer. Serial: For NMEA output to autopilots or other devices. External Antenna: For improved reception in vehicles or under dense cover.

  1. Turn off the GPS unit before connecting cables.
  2. Connect USB cable to computer and to the GPSMAP 60Cx's port.
  3. Select "USB Mass Storage" mode on the GPS unit when prompted to transfer map/data files.
  4. For external antenna, screw the antenna cable into the external antenna connector on the top of the unit.

Tip: Ensure the USB cable is fully seated. Use the Garmin USB drivers if connecting to a PC for the first time.

Using Maps & Navigation

Supports Garmin MapSource topographic, marine, and street maps.

  1. View Map: Press PAGE to reach the Map page. Use the ROCKER to pan the map.
  2. Mark a Waypoint: Press and hold ENTER/MARK. Edit details and press ENTER to save.
  3. Navigate to a Waypoint: From the Main Menu, select "Find" > "Waypoints". Select a waypoint and choose "Go To".
  4. Follow a Route: Main Menu > Routes. Select a route and choose "Navigate".
  5. View Trip Data: Press PAGE to cycle to the Trip Computer page.
  6. View Satellite Status: Main Menu > Satellite page shows signal strength and position.

Care & Cleaning
