Safety Precautions

Observe all safety guidelines to prevent injury or equipment damage.

  1. Disconnect vessel battery before making electrical connections.
  2. Ensure mounting surface is structurally sound and can support unit weight.
  3. Route cables away from moving parts, heat sources, and sharp edges.
  4. Use only marine-grade wire and connectors for all installations.
  5. Seal all deck penetrations with marine sealant to prevent water intrusion.

CAUTION! This device contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not open the housing.

Mounting the Display

Select a location with clear view, easy access, and minimal glare.

  1. Use provided template to mark hole locations on mounting surface.
  2. Drill holes as indicated (typically 4 holes for bracket).
  3. Secure bracket using stainless steel hardware (included).
  4. Attach display unit to bracket, ensuring it locks securely.
  5. Adjust tilt angle for optimal viewing, then tighten locking knob.

Tip: Test viewing angle from helm position before final tightening.

Power Connection

Connect power cable directly to battery or dedicated marine switch panel. Use 16 AWG or larger wire for runs over 10 feet. Install fuse within 18 inches of power source.

WARNING! Reverse polarity can damage unit. Double-check connections before applying power.

Network Configuration

Connect to Garmin Marine Network and NMEA devices for full functionality.

  1. Garmin Marine Network: Use standard Ethernet cable to connect to compatible radar, sonar, or other chartplotters.
  2. NMEA 2000: Connect to NMEA 2000 backbone using appropriate drop cable.
  3. NMEA 0183: Connect to compatible devices (e.g., VHF, AIS) using dedicated TX/RX wires.
  4. Audio/Video: Connect external camera or audio source to A/V input port.

Note: Refer to device-specific manuals for detailed wiring diagrams.

Antenna & Sensor Connections

Internal GPS antenna requires clear view of sky. For external sensors:

  1. Radar: Connect to Garmin GMR series radar via Ethernet cable.
  2. Sonar: Connect to compatible sounder module using appropriate cable.
  3. VHF/AIS: Wire via NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 for DSC and AIS data.
  4. Autopilot: Interface using NMEA 2000 or proprietary Garmin network.

Tip: Keep Ethernet cables away from power cables to reduce interference.

Initial Power-On & Setup

After connections are secure, apply power to unit.

  1. Press POWER button to turn on display.
  2. Follow on-screen prompts to set language, units, and time.
  3. Agree to GPS disclaimer and allow internal GPS to acquire satellites.
  4. Configure network devices via Settings > Communications > Network.
  5. Calibrate heading sensor (if connected) by following on-screen instructions.
  6. Load additional charts via MicroSD card if needed.

CAUTION! Do not operate unit while vessel is underway until installation is verified.
