Installation Overview

Unpack and inspect all components. Plan installation location considering visibility, accessibility, and cable routing.

  1. Select mounting location: Ensure clear view, away from magnetic interference.
  2. Prepare mounting surface: Clean, dry, and structurally sound.
  3. Route cables: Plan paths avoiding sharp edges, heat sources, and moving parts.
  4. Connect power: Ensure correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  5. Connect antenna: External GPS antenna for optimal reception.
  6. Connect NMEA devices: For interfacing with autopilot, sounder, etc.

WARNING! Disconnect boat's battery before making electrical connections. Ensure all connections are waterproof.

Mounting the Unit

Choose appropriate mounting method based on your vessel's configuration.

  1. Bracket Mount: Use provided swivel bracket for adjustable viewing.
  2. Flush Mount: Cut opening per template for permanent installation.
  3. RAM Mount: Compatible with aftermarket RAM mounting systems.

CAUTION! Use appropriate tools and fasteners for marine environment (stainless steel recommended). Do not overtighten.

Electrical Connections

Tip: Use dielectric grease on all connections to prevent corrosion.

Antenna and Sensor Connections

For optimal GPS performance, consider external antenna installation.

  1. Mount external GPS antenna with clear sky view.
  2. Connect to 5-pin circular connector on back of unit.
  3. Route cable away from other electronics to reduce interference.
  4. For NMEA 2000 networks, use appropriate backbone and drop cables.

Note: Internal antenna may suffice for open cockpit installations.

NMEA Interface Setup
