Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Choose optimal mounting location.

  1. Select mounting location: Ensure clear view of sky, away from obstructions.
  2. Mount unit: Use provided bracket and hardware; secure firmly.
  3. Connect power: Connect red wire to positive (+), black wire to negative (-) of 9-35V DC source.
  4. Connect NMEA output: Connect NMEA OUT+ and NMEA OUT- to compatible device.
  5. Ground connection: Connect ground wire if required by system.

WARNING! Ensure power is off during installation. Use proper marine-grade wiring for connections.

First-Time Setup

Power on GPS19x; observe status LED.

  1. Initial acquisition: Allow 5-15 minutes for first GPS fix (cold start).
  2. Verify GPS fix: Solid green LED indicates 3D GPS fix.
  3. Configure NMEA output: Default outputs standard NMEA sentences; verify with connected device.
  4. Test data output: Use compatible display or software to confirm GPS data reception.

CAUTION! Ensure proper voltage range (9-35V DC). Do not exceed maximum voltage.

Specifications

Controls and Connections

Physical unit has status LED and connector ports. No front panel controls.

Connections: Power (red/black wires), NMEA OUT+ (yellow), NMEA OUT- (green), Ground (shield).

Status LED: Off = no power; Blinking green = searching for satellites; Solid green = 3D GPS fix; Red = error condition.

Connecting to Systems

Marine chartplotters, autopilots, radar systems, AIS receivers, PC navigation software.

  1. Turn off all devices before connecting.
  2. Identify NMEA input on target device (typically NMEA IN+ and NMEA IN-).
  3. Connect GPS19x NMEA OUT+ to device NMEA IN+.
  4. Connect GPS19x NMEA OUT- to device NMEA IN-.
  5. Ensure common ground if required.
  6. Power on devices and verify data flow.

Tip: Use twisted pair cable for NMEA connections to reduce interference.

Operation Modes

Standard operation: Continuous GPS positioning with NMEA output.

  1. Normal Mode: Continuous GPS tracking and data output.
  2. Battery Save Mode: Reduced power consumption when configured.
  3. Simulator Mode: Outputs simulated NMEA data for testing (factory setting).
  4. Configuration Mode: Allows output sentence selection via special commands.

WARNING! Do not operate in simulator mode for actual navigation.

Configuration

Configure output sentences and update rate via NMEA commands.

  1. Enter configuration mode: Send proprietary NMEA command sequence.
  2. Select sentences: Choose which NMEA sentences to output.
  3. Set update rate: Configure 1Hz, 5Hz, or 10Hz output (model dependent).
  4. Save configuration: Send save command to store settings in non-volatile memory.

Default: Outputs GGA, GSA, GSV, RMC at 1Hz.

Care & Maintenance

Periodically inspect connectors and cables for corrosion or damage.

Cleaning: Use fresh water and mild detergent; rinse thoroughly. Dry completely before reconnecting.

CAUTION! Do not use high-pressure water spray. Do not open housing; void warranty if sealed.
