Getting Started

Unpack and inspect contents. Insert batteries and acquire satellite signal.

  1. Install batteries: Open battery compartment, insert 2 AA batteries observing polarity.
  2. Power on: Press and hold POWER button until device starts.
  3. Acquire satellites: Go outdoors with clear sky view; wait for GPS signal acquisition.
  4. Set initial preferences: Use Setup menu to configure language, units, and time format.

WARNING! Use only recommended batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries.

Basic Navigation

Use the Satellite page to view signal strength, Map page for navigation, and Compass page for direction.

  1. View your location: From any page, press PAGE to cycle through Satellite, Map, and Compass pages.
  2. Navigate to a waypoint: Select Where To? > Waypoints, choose destination, and select Go.
  3. Follow a track: Select Tracks > Saved Tracks, choose track, and select Follow Track.
  4. Mark a waypoint: From Map page, press and hold ROCKER to mark your current location.

CAUTION! GPS accuracy can be affected by environmental conditions. Always carry a map and compass as backup.

Device Controls

Front Panel: POWER button, ROCKER key (up/down/left/right/ENTER), PAGE button, ZOOM IN/OUT buttons.

Button Functions: POWER - Turns device on/off; ROCKER - Navigates menus and maps; PAGE - Cycles through main pages; ZOOM - Adjusts map scale; ENTER (center of ROCKER) - Selects menu items.

Setup Menu: System (language, units, display contrast, backlight timeout); Tracks (record settings, clear track log); Reset (restore defaults). Map Settings: Orientation (North Up, Track Up), Detail (More, Normal, Less).

Using the Main Menu

Access Main Menu by pressing and holding ROCKER from any page. Contains: Where To?, Track Manager, Setup, Trip Computer, Calendar.

  1. Turn on device and wait for satellite acquisition.
  2. Press and hold ROCKER to open Main Menu.
  3. Navigate with ROCKER, press ENTER to select.
  4. Use Where To? to find waypoints, cities, or points of interest.
  5. Use Track Manager to view, save, or follow tracks.

Tip: Customize the page sequence in Setup > Page Sequence.

Managing Waypoints & Tracks

Store and navigate to locations (waypoints) and record your path (tracks).

  1. Mark waypoint: From Map page, press and hold ROCKER, select Save Waypoint.
  2. Edit waypoint: Select Waypoint Manager, choose waypoint, select Edit.
  3. Start track recording: Setup > Tracks > Record Track > On.
  4. Save track: After recording, select Save Track from Track Manager.
  5. Clear track log: Setup > Tracks > Clear Track Log.

WARNING! Regularly save important tracks to prevent data loss when clearing track log.

Geocaching

Supports paperless geocaching using GPX files loaded via Garmin BaseCamp software.

  1. Load geocaches: Connect device to computer via USB, use BaseCamp to transfer GPX files.
  2. Find geocache: Select Where To? > Geocaches, choose cache, select Go.
  3. Navigate: Follow compass arrow and distance to cache.
  4. Log find: Mark cache as found in Geocache menu.

Note: eTrex 10 does not support detailed maps or aerial imagery for geocaching.

Care & Maintenance

Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals. Store in a cool, dry place.

CAUTION! Do not immerse device beyond 1 meter or for longer than 30 minutes. Ensure battery compartment seal is clean and intact.
