Installation & Power

Unpack and inspect contents. Install batteries for first use.

  1. Install Batteries: Open battery compartment on back, insert 2 AA batteries observing polarity.
  2. External Power (Optional): Connect compatible 10-35V DC power cable to external port for marine use.
  3. Initial Satellite Acquisition: Power on unit and place outdoors with clear view of sky.

WARNING! Use only recommended batteries. Do not mix old and new or different types of batteries. Ensure battery compartment seal is clean and secure for waterproofing.

First-Time Setup

Power on the GPS 72H; follow on-screen prompts.

  1. Acquire Satellites: Hold unit steady outdoors. The "Acquiring Satellites" page will show progress.
  2. Set Language: Press MENU, go to Setup > System > Language. Select desired language.
  3. Set Units: Press MENU, go to Setup > Units. Select Metric, Statute, or Nautical for distance/speed.
  4. Set Time: Press MENU, go to Setup > Time. Choose Time Format and Time Zone.
  5. Calibrate Compass (if needed): Follow on-screen instructions on the Compass page.

CAUTION! Initial satellite acquisition can take several minutes. Ensure you are in an open area away from tall buildings and dense foliage.

Controls and Display

Access functions via the front keypad. PAGE cycles through main pages (Satellite, Map, Compass, Highway, Main Menu). ROCKER moves cursor and selects items. ENTER/MARK confirms selections or marks a waypoint. POWER turns unit on/off and controls backlight. MENU opens context-sensitive options for the current page.

Display Pages: Satellite: Shows satellite signal strength and position accuracy. Map: Displays your position, track, waypoints, and routes. Compass: Shows bearing to destination and current heading. Highway: Provides a simple steering guide to your destination. Main Menu: Access to Waypoints, Routes, Tracks, Setup, and Trip Computer.

Basic Navigation

Navigate to a saved waypoint or create a "Go To" destination.

  1. From any page, press and hold ENTER/MARK to mark your current location as a waypoint.
  2. To navigate to a waypoint: Press MENU twice to go to Main Menu > Waypoints. Select a waypoint, then select "Go To".
  3. The Compass or Highway page will now guide you to the destination, showing bearing and distance.
  4. To stop navigation, go to the active navigation page (Compass/Highway), press MENU, and select "Stop Navigation".

Tip: Use the MOB (Man Overboard) function by quickly pressing ENTER/MARK twice. This immediately creates a waypoint and begins navigation back to that spot.

Waypoints & Routes

Store and manage locations for navigation.

  1. Creating a Waypoint: Press & hold ENTER/MARK. Edit name/symbol if desired, press ENTER to save.
  2. Editing a Waypoint: Main Menu > Waypoints > Select waypoint > MENU > Edit.
  3. Creating a Route: Main Menu > Routes > New Route > Add Waypoints in sequence.
  4. Navigating a Route: Select a route from the Routes list, then select "Navigate".
  5. Reversing a Route: While viewing a route, press MENU and select "Reverse Route".

WARNING! Always verify the coordinates of critical waypoints. Do not rely solely on GPS for navigation in hazardous conditions.

Tracks & Trip Computer

The GPS 72H records your path and provides trip statistics.

Tracks: Your path is automatically recorded as a "Track Log". To save it: Main Menu > Tracks > MENU > Save Track. Clear the active log via "Clear Track Log".

Trip Computer: Access via Main Menu > Trip Computer. Displays: - Odometer (total distance traveled) - Moving Time/Stopped Time - Max Speed - Average Speed (moving) - Sunrise/Sunset Times (based on location)

Reset trip data by pressing MENU while on the Trip Computer page.

Care & Maintenance

Clean the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents. Rinse with fresh water after exposure to salt water. Ensure the battery compartment seal and external port cover are clean and fully closed to maintain waterproof integrity. Store in a cool, dry place.

CAUTION! Do not open the unit. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.
