Installation & Power

  1. Install Batteries: Open battery compartment on back, insert two AA batteries (NiMH or Lithium recommended).
  2. Power On: Press and hold POWER button until unit beeps and display lights up.
  3. Initial Satellite Acquisition: Hold device outdoors with clear view of sky for 5-15 minutes for first fix.

First-Time Setup

Connecting to a Computer

  4. Select "Mass Storage" mode on GPS screen when prompted.

Tip: Ensure the GPS is not in "GPS mode" while connected to computer to save battery. The unit may charge via USB if using optional NiMH batteries and adapter.

Using Maps & Waypoints

  1. Mark a Waypoint: From Map page, press ENTER to drop pin, select "Mark Waypoint," edit details if needed, press ENTER to save.
  2. Navigate to a Waypoint: Go to Main Menu > Waypoint Manager, select a waypoint, choose "Go To." The Compass page will guide you.
  3. Record a Track: Tracks are automatically recorded. Manage them via Main Menu > Track Manager to save, clear, or view.
  4. Create a Route: Main Menu > Route Planner. Add waypoints in sequence to create a planned path.
  5. Use Area Calculation: Measure the area of a field or plot by walking the perimeter and using the Area Calculation tool.

WARNING! GPS accuracy can be affected by environmental factors. Always carry a paper map and compass as a backup.

Advanced Features

Wireless Sharing: Share waypoints, tracks, and routes with other compatible Garmin units via the "Transfer" function. BirdsEye Satellite Imagery: Subscribe to download high-resolution satellite photos to a microSD card and view them on your map. Care & Maintenance
