Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Choose a location with clear sky view.

  1. Mount the unit: Use provided hardware for flush or external mounting. Ensure secure attachment.
  2. Connect power and data: Route cable to power source and NMEA 0183-compatible device (chartplotter, autopilot, etc.).
  3. Wire connections: Red wire to +9–35 VDC, Black wire to ground (GND). NMEA OUT+ (Blue) and NMEA OUT- (Brown) to receiving device.
  4. Apply power: Verify LED illumination.

WARNING! Ensure power is off during installation. Use appropriate gauge wire for power connections. Protect cable from abrasion.

First-Time Setup

Apply power; allow unit to acquire satellite fix.

  1. Initial acquisition: Place unit with clear sky view. First fix may take up to 45 seconds (hot start) or several minutes (cold start).
  2. Verify LED: Solid green indicates 3D GPS fix. Flashing green indicates 2D fix or searching.
  3. Check NMEA output: Connect to compatible device to confirm data reception (e.g., verify position on chartplotter).
  4. Configure output sentences: Use compatible software or device to enable/disable specific NMEA sentences if needed.

CAUTION! Do not mount near high-power radio antennas or obstructions that block satellite view.

Specifications

Controls and Connections

Unit has no physical controls; operation is via power and data connections. LED provides status.

Cable Pinout: 1-Red (+VDC), 2-Black (GND), 3-Shield, 4-Blue (NMEA OUT+), 5-White (NMEA IN+), 6-Brown (NMEA OUT-).

LED Indicators: Off = No power. Flashing Green = Searching for fix or 2D fix. Solid Green = 3D GPS fix. Flashing Red = Invalid data or self-test failure.

Configuring NMEA 0183 Output

Default output: 4800 baud, GGA, GLL, GSA, GSV, RMC, VTG, ZDA sentences.

  1. Baud rate change: Requires connection to configurable device/software. Send proprietary Garmin command or use compatible chartplotter.
  2. Sentence selection: Enable/disable sentences via connected device if supported.
  3. Verify configuration: Monitor output with NMEA listener tool.

Tip: Most marine devices auto-detect NMEA 0183 at 4800 baud. Ensure receiving device is set to same baud rate.

Operation and Status Indicators

Normal operation: Solid green LED, continuous NMEA output.

  1. Power on: LED flashes green during acquisition, turns solid with fix.
  2. Data output: NMEA sentences transmitted once per second.
  3. Loss of fix: LED may flash green; unit reacquires automatically.
  4. Power save: No built-in sleep mode; continuous operation when powered.

WARNING! Do not disassemble unit. No user-serviceable parts inside.

Maintenance & Care

Periodically inspect housing, cable, and connections for damage. Clean with fresh water and mild soap if needed.

CAUTION! Do not use high-pressure spray. Ensure connector seal is intact before exposure to moisture.
