Installation & Power

Install batteries and prepare for first use.

  1. Open battery compartment: Turn unit over, loosen screws, lift cover.
  2. Insert batteries: Install 4 AA alkaline or NiMH batteries observing polarity.
  3. Close compartment: Replace cover and tighten screws securely.
  4. Power on: Press and hold POWER key until display activates.

WARNING! Use only recommended batteries. Ensure compartment is dry and sealed before use in wet conditions.

First-Time Setup

Power on GPS; follow initial prompts.

  1. Acquire satellites: Place unit outdoors with clear sky view; allow several minutes for first fix.
  2. Set language: Use MENU > Setup > System > Language to select ENGLISH (default).
  3. Set position format: Navigate to MENU > Setup > Units > Position Format; select desired format (e.g., hddd°mm.mmm').
  4. Set map datum: In same menu, select Map Datum (WGS 84 default).
  5. Set time: Adjust time zone and format in Time setup.

CAUTION! Initial satellite acquisition requires clear view of sky; avoid obstructions.

Basic Navigation

  3. Create waypoint: Press and hold MARK to save current position; edit name/symbol.
  4. Follow track: Activate saved track from Track menu for backtrack navigation.

Tip: For best accuracy, ensure good satellite reception (4+ satellites with strong signal).

Advanced Functions

Utilize advanced GPS features.

  1. Routes: Create from MENU > Routes > New; add existing waypoints.
  2. Tracks: View active track log; save or clear from Track menu.
  3. Projected waypoints: Create waypoint at distance and bearing from current location.
  4. Area calculation: Measure area by marking perimeter points.
  5. Sun/Moon info: View sunrise/sunset and moon phase data.
  6. NMEA output: Enable in Interface setup for connection to chart plotters.

Waypoints & Routes

Manage navigation data.

Waypoints: Store up to 500. Edit name (6 characters), symbol, comment. Delete individually or all.

Routes: Up to 20 routes, 50 waypoints each. Activate route for turn-by-turn navigation. Reverse route for return trip.

Tracks: Automatic track log records path; save up to 10 tracks. Use trackback to navigate original path in reverse.

Care & Maintenance

Clean with damp cloth; do not use harsh chemicals. Ensure battery compartment seal is clean and intact.

CAUTION! Do not expose to extreme temperatures for prolonged periods. Replace batteries if leakage occurs.
