Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Choose a location with clear view of sky.

  1. Mount the unit: Use provided bracket to secure in a location with unobstructed view of sky.
  2. Connect power: Attach red wire to positive (+), black wire to negative (-) of 10-32 VDC source.
  3. Connect data: Use NMEA 0183 wires (blue/yellow) to connect to compatible device if needed.

WARNING! Ensure power is off during installation. Mount securely to prevent movement or damage.

First-Time Setup

Power on the GPS 10x; observe LED indicators.

  1. Acquire satellites: Place unit outdoors with clear sky view. LED will blink during acquisition, then stay solid when locked.
  2. Pair Bluetooth: Enable Bluetooth on your target device, search for "GPS 10x" and pair (default PIN 1234).
  3. Configure NMEA output: If connecting to a chartplotter, ensure correct baud rate (4800 bps default).
  4. Test connection: Verify position data is received by your navigation software or device.

CAUTION! Initial satellite acquisition may take several minutes. Ensure clear view of sky.

Controls and Indicators

Unit has a single multi-function button and a tri-color LED.

LED Behavior:

Button Press: Short press to toggle Bluetooth discoverability. Long press (5 sec) to force cold start of GPS receiver.

Connecting to Devices

Wired: Use NMEA 0183 output wires. Wireless: Use Bluetooth.

  1. Turn off power before making wired connections.
  2. For NMEA: Connect blue wire (TX+) and yellow wire (TX-) to receiving device's NMEA input.
  3. For Bluetooth: Enable on both devices, pair using PIN 1234.
  4. Select correct COM port or serial profile on your software.

Tip: For best Bluetooth range, keep devices within 10 meters, avoid major obstructions.

Operation & Navigation

Once installed and connected, the GPS 10x provides continuous position data.

  1. Ensure unit has satellite lock (solid green LED).
  2. Your connected chartplotter, PC, or PDA will display position, speed, and course.
  3. Use your navigation software's features for route planning, tracking, and waypoint management.
  4. The GPS 10x outputs standard NMEA sentences (GGA, RMC, GSA, GSV).

WARNING! GPS is an aid to navigation. Always use in conjunction with proper charts and situational awareness.

Bluetooth Pairing

To pair with a new device:

  1. Press the button on the GPS 10x briefly. LED will blink blue.
  2. On your PC/PDA/phone, go to Bluetooth settings and search for new devices.
  3. Select "GPS 10x" from the list.
  4. Enter PIN code: 1234 when prompted.
  5. Connection is confirmed by solid blue LED.
  6. Configure your software to use the new Bluetooth serial port.

Note: The GPS 10x can remember multiple paired devices.

Care & Maintenance

Rinse with fresh water after use in saltwater environments. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or high-pressure sprays.

CAUTION! Ensure power connector is dry before applying power. Inspect cables regularly for wear or corrosion.
